Athyrium niponicum pictum, Japanese Painted Fern

Athyrium niponicum pictum, Japanese Painted Fern, has purplish leaflets at the base, lavender midway up, then silvery greenish gray toward the tip. Provides drama for shady areas. Its fronds grow to 1-1/2 feet long, making a tight, slowly spreading, clump. Turns brown after repeated frosts.
