Fothergilla gardenii, Dwarf Fothergilla, grows 2-3′ high and as wide or wider with dark green leaves that turn an intense yellow to orange to scarlet in the fall. Often, the shrub has all three colors in the same leaf. Although its grown mainly for its fall foliage color, spring bloom is pretty too. Bottle-brushlike white, honey-scented flowers appear early in spring.
