Dicentra formosa, Pacific Bleedinghearts, is native to Siskiyou County and other areas of western North America. This herbaceous, rhizomatous perennial thrives in moist, partly-shaded woodlands but will grow in dry conditions once established. The fern-like foliage adds a nice texture to the woodland garden. Blooms from mid-spring to early summer. Despite its delicate appearance, its tough and hardy. Deer don’t like it but hummingbirds do!
