Rhododendron occidentale, Western Azalea, is found along the river and near streams in Dunsmuir.  One of the best-beloved native plants with fragrant, very showy flowers, it provides spectacular fall color as well.  Blooms in May and June.  Deciduous, it can grow to 6-8 feet high.
