East Indian Holly Fern, Arachniodes simplicior variagata

Our young specimen of the East Indian Holly Fern, Arachniodes simplicior variagata, was planted in the fall of 2012. Although it’s just getting established, the showiness of its contrasting colors and interesting leaf shape is already evident. This cultivar was developed from a fern native to Japan and China. It’s deciduous in our cold-winter climate. This slow-growing fern will eventually reach two feet in height.
