Jelena Witch Hazel

Hamamelis x intermeida ‘Jelena’ is a beautiful variety of Witch Hazel. A cross between H. mollis and H. japonica, ‘Jelena’, has coppery orange flowers and fall foliage in orange, red and scarlet. The odd-looking blooms consist of many narrow, crumpled petals and are said to resemble shredded coconut. The specimen in the Gardens is located at the north end of the Stage Garden and flowers late in winter.  The blooms last until March.  This is a spectacular specimen for a shady spot.
