Plant of the Month

November 2013
Pseudotsuga menziesii
Douglas Fir

Native to Dunsmuir, the stately Pseudotsuga menziesii or Douglas Fir covers the canyon forest surrounding the Gardens.

Not as obvious in the summer and early fall when plant growth is abundant and a multitude of leaf textures and colors assail our senses, the Douglas Fir quietly bide their time in the background providing context. As leaves fall and annual plants’ fade away, these majestic trees show their power and glory.
